Today Bad Homburg´s company Linotype GmbH sells digital fonts. But this used to be different. The company, which was founded in 1890, looks back on a long development story.

At the beginning there was the typograph. Ottmar Mergenthaler´s invention made the automatically typesetting of “Gutenberg´s plumb letters” possible for the first time in history. This provided an enormous time- and cost-saving factor! Shortly after its first introduction in 1886, the typewriter was engaged into every large publishing house around the entire world.

The film trailer represents a reminder of the famous Linotype typograph, which still assembled analogical letters. The production finished in 1976.
