Today´s mascots are mostly villous creatures like the WM Goleo – half lama, half human and naked down below. No comparison to dachshund Waldi, the first sporting mascot. He was the first official mascot at the Olympic Games. It was designed by the legendary Otl Aicher who was responsible for the corporate design at Munich´s Olympic Games.
The cover pictures of form magazine for design from 1971 shows Waldi illustrations out of the Olympic Game´s corporate design manual. Waldi was available as soft toy, wooden toy, to inflate or assemble, to sit on, lollipop, savings box, he became a TV star and a favorite international pet at the end.
